I've been a serious amateur photographer for 50+ years, and had planned to take my Rebel xsi and two zoom lenses. I bought the sx1 3 months ago to evaluate it, and after many hours of using it, shooting test shots vs. the xsi, and traveling with it, I decided to take only the sx1 to Tanzania. Four people in our group had quality DSLRs and big lenses; one had an HD DVR. I am VERY happy that I chose to take the sx1. I got many more very good stills and HD videos than any one else. The DSLR people did get some exceptional stills that are better than anything the sx1 could do, but I knew that would be the case. My sx1 was always with me, always a second or two away from taking a quick shot, and even mixing stills and HD video simultaneously. I love that you can zoom while shooting video. I used Energizer "ultimate lithium" non-rechargeable AA batteries. I got 800 stills and 45 minutes of video on the first set before the "low battery" warning. For me, reviews that point out that the sx1 image quality is not quite as good as a DSLR+lens that are 4x bigger and heavier are not helpful. It is true, and should be obvious. The big lenses are also better in dim light. In good light and mid-distance scenes, I can't tell the difference in 8x10 images from my best DSLR and my pocket Canon SD970. I had a choice of taking the sx1 on safari, with a total weight of 1.47 ...

Just playing about with my camera in low-light conditions, I used a 18-55mm kit lens with a Jessops UV filter on it, the noise is most probably because of low-light. Items in this video include a piece of paper with text on it, a canon 58mm lens cap and my razer lycosa keyboard.

A video on a Bower HT55 Tulip Lens Hood So picked this up from Fry's for .99 and a little bit more after tax for my Sony A500. It seems to be a fine product for the price and quality. The construction is pretty solid and nice. The price is average but I would expect it to be a little bit lower. Of course OEM lens hoods would cost more than at least and could be up to or higher. You can't really attach anything else to it after you mount this hood on (UV Lens, Lens Cap ETC...) so that's a little bit of a disappointment. It seems to be in the pictures or it casts shadows sometimes when fully zoomed out. So for the price and quality I would somewhat recommend it. Last thing the Style looks alright but not great. I would buy a Sony Lens Hood but the price is somewhat out of my range for that item. Purpose of Lens Hood is to prevent or reduce Flares in images. Canon powershot G10 with 0.45x wide angle adapter Video Clips. Duration : 1.27 Mins.
I recorded this video just to show people out there that it is possible to ad a wide angle lens without the help of canon. I bought this setup on E-bay for 30 dollars and it is a 2 piece kit that i came up with. I didnt find any information on the net that confirms that his setup will work without the need of cropping the photos. Its is a "canon g10 adapter tube" with a 58mm thread on it. The tube comes in 2 parts but you will only need 1. And that is the part that goes on the camera body itself. Note THE SECOND PART IS NOT NEEDED. On top of that i added a 58mm 0.45x wide angle converter that i also got from e-bay. Just screw this one on the tube and you are done. One other thing to rember is that you can not zoom with this setup. Its for wideangle shots ONLY. So keep your zoomrange to equal 28mm and its all fine. With the adapter lens comes a macro lens. The macro lens must stay on the .45x converter to get the whole thing to fit the 58mm tube. Yes there will be a small ammount if black corners but for my purpose its just an extra plus ( most of the times ) The video is recorded with another canon G10 without any extras on it.
